Revision, also known as Dour, is the most important part of a student’s daily work. It is essentially what keeps the Quraan memorized in one’s head. Without doing Dour a student will end up forgetting the Quraan and all the effort gone into memorizing it can go to waste. It is very important for a student to learn the right way to be able to fully keep the Quraan in memory. The common method of learning dour is the ruku-by-ruku method. For student using 13-line Quran, a ruku starts from an ﻉ that is at the side of the page and ends at the next one. A ruku may also start from the beginning of a surah. For students with 15-line Quraan who do not have rukus, they may just do page by page and use the same method as ruku by ruku.
Usually, Dour is done quarter of a Juz at a time. The quarter starts from the beginning of a juz and ends at a special marking on the side of the page. The sign that ends the first quarter looks like this.
The sign that ends the second quarter looks like this.
Due to the sign not being next to an ﻉ, the quarter actually ends at the following ﻉ a few ayahs down.
The sign that ends the 3rd quarter looks like this.
Once again because there is no ﻉ next to the sign. The quarter will actually end a few ayahs later on the next page.
Step 1: Open the quarter you have and figure out exactly where one ruku ends. In case you have 15-line Quraan, find out where 1-page ends.
Step 2: Do Naazirah of the entire ruku 3 times from start to finish, make sure to be reading loudly, clearly and as fluently as possible. Make sure to have particular care and focus especially on mistakes that are marked.
Step 3: Read each marked mistake 5 times to ensure the mistake is never repeated.
Step 4: Read a few words before and few words after together with the mistake another 5 times to further ensure the mistake never comes up again.
Step 5: Repeat this process for all mistakes until full ruku is done. Then read the entire ruku without looking 3 times until there are no stucks or mistakes.
Step 6: Repeat this process for the next ruku.
Step 7: Read the first ruku and second ruku looking inside once and then once again without looking. If mistakes or stucks occur, repeat both rukus until fluent.
Step 8: Learn the third ruku following steps 2-5. Then Read all 3 rukus looking inside once and then once again without looking. If mistakes or stucks occur, repeat all rukus until fluent.
Step 9: Continue this process until the full quarter is learnt.
Note: Depending on how strong or weak the quarter is, this process may be changed to ½ pg. by ½ pg. if weak or 2-3 pages at a time if stronger.
